Halesworth, An Alternative Guide

The photographs were taken during my summer residency in July 2024 at The Cut, Halesworth’s cultural centre.
This series offers an observation from the perspective of an outsider, aiming to reveal the specificity of place. It focuses on subtle, and sometimes humorous, interactions between the built environment and its surroundings. Rather than highlighting well-known landmarks or natural beauty, the images draw attention to spatial nuances and often overlooked details, that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Some moments are tied to a particular time of day; others stand out for their unconventional or almost performative appearance. Together, they form a visual fabric that defines the place through my personal lens.
Rooted in a subjective experience, the images are intended to resonate with both those familiar with the area and those intrigued by the less conventional portrayal of a place.
I’d like to extend special thanks to Kasia Posen and Tony Casement for facilitating the residency, as well as to the participating artists, facilitators, and volunteers whose conversations and input contributed to the development of this work.
The images were originally presented as a slideshow during the residency’s Open Day. Since then, I’ve created an A5 booklet featuring 36 images alongside a map of Halesworth. The booklet will be available at ABBF, from 16th to 18th May.
