  ARTIST STATEMENT:

I would like to take you on a visual journey of the past fifteen years of my inspirations and creations. To me, creating art is about revealing and sharing my very personal outlook within the world, what fascinates and excites me. In this website, you can explore different aspects of my work, including: photography, painting, collage, print, drawing, relief, site specific work and projection.

Most of my work is based on photographs. Trained as a fine-art painter, to me, photography is an extension of painting within the real world. I am using my original photographic images as a foundation from which I create paintings, ceramic reliefs, prints, mixed media work and projections, to express the essence of my experiences when capturing the image.

I used an analogue SLR camera until 2007. Currently, I am using a compact digital camera, calling it my ‘sketch book’.
I often manipulate the digital images in ‘Photoshop’ to emphasize what fascinates me about the subject.

I am interested in my immediate environment, having my camera with me at all times helps me to capture the beauty and abstract compositions within. The images are a direct reflection of my neighbourhood, my day to day journeys and travels as I like to compare and document how local cultures react to their built environment. To me, they mirror a certain collective view of a community, neighbourhood, culture, country.

I seek inspiration within unique arrangements, the individual, often improvised urban scenes. I see urban landscapes as ‘endangered species’ of our past. I feel the urge to document them, before they disappear or are replaced by soul-less, uniform cityscapes of societies deceived by their utopia.

Fascinated by patches of sunlight and shadow cast of the architectural structures both in and out of doors, I intend to transform the reality in an abstract composition of a painting or an installation piece.

A separate section of my website is dedicated to my public arts work. I am working with different local communities, groups and organisations, facilitating art to mostly vulnerable or disadvantaged adults. I am teaching art (painting and drawing), curating and setting up exhibitions, painting murals for schools and public places, facilitating art and craft workshops, supporting individuals with learning difficulties on an artistic level and many more.
